Dien Bien is known as a historical site of Vietnamese resistance during World War II against France. Nowadays, Dien Bien is not only a historical place to visit, it’s also a good place to learn the culture of minority ethnic groups, and to check-in at “Landmark 0”, named “A pa chai”, located at the border junction between three countries: Vietnam, Laos, and China.
If you love history, A1 Hill, Do Cat Tunnel and Victory Dien Bien Museum are places not to be missed. Therefore, some favorite places to visit in Dien Bien include: Muong Lay, a village of Thai minority ethnic group (Ban Xa bridge, Hang Tom bridge - it was built in 1967 and used to be the biggest cable-stayed bridge of Indochina at that time). You can also visit Muong Ang Village ( Tham Bang Cave, Dao Vien Son ecotourism area), Muong Cha with many caves like Hat Chuong, Huoi Cang, Huoi Dap, Muong Nhe Village with Landmark 0, Natural Reserves, Nam Po village and Nam Chim waterfall, the highest waterfall in Dien Bien at 60m high.
Cuisine at Dien Bien that you can not miss includes Pa Pinh Top (grilled stream-fish), grilled chicken with Mac Khen, a spice that is quite close to pepper with a mild spicy taste and intense aroma, and mountain ebony salad.
Last but not least, the best season to visit Dien Bien is early March, when the white mountain ebony blooms, and December with the bloom of yellow wild sunflower.
