Lai Chau is located in the north-west of Ha Noi, around 500 km away, and is a good location for trekkers to explore. Lai Chau owns 5 other peaks in the Top 10 highest mountains in Vietnam. In order, they are Pu Si Lung (3.083m), Pu Ta Leng (3.049m), Bạch Mộc Lương Tử (3.045m), Khang Su Văn (3.012m), Tả Liên (2.993m), Bạch Mộc Lương (2.976m).
Lai Chau is home to 20 minority ethnic groups, making this area very diverse in terms of culture. There are some famous places to visit: Muong Te (Pu Si Lung mountain, Milestone 17 - upstream of Da River), Nam Nhun (Lai Chau hydroelectric power plant, Pu Dao Village), Phong Tho (Dao San Plateau, The Heart Waterfall), Sin Ho (Pu Sam Cap Cave, Sin Ho Plateau), Tam Duong (Na Luong Village, O Quy Ho Pass - one of the highest passes in VN with over 2000 m from the sea level), Tan Uyen (Tan Uyen Tea Hill, Phieng Phat Village), and Than Uyen (Khau Co Pass, Muong Than Paddy Fields).
There is also delicious local food in Lai Chau, like “carried-under-arm” pig, Lam Nho (grilled beef or ox on charcoal and mixed with vegetable and seasonings), Day Cake (a mixed cake with sticky rice, egg, and pork fat).
The best season to visit Lai Chau is from January to May and September to October.
